Task Analysis
How to score multi-step skills with prompt level tracking during active therapy sessions.
Score multi-step skills with prompt level tracking during active sessions. TallyFlex auto-advances through steps so you can focus on the learner.

Need to configure a task analysis tracker first? See Task Analysis Setup.
Session Interface Overview
When you start a session with a task analysis tracker, the tile displays:
- Percent independent - Independence rate so far (e.g., “50%”)
- Progress indicator - Scored steps / total steps (e.g., “4/7 steps”)
Tap the tile to expand the full scoring interface showing all steps, the current step with prompt level buttons, and completed steps with their prompt badges.
Scoring Steps
Basic Scoring Flow
For each step:
- Present the step opportunity to the learner
- Provide the minimum prompt needed for correct response
- Tap the prompt level button that matches the support provided
- TallyFlex auto-advances to the next step
The interface shows completed steps with a green checkmark and their prompt level badge.
Prompt levels range from Independent (I) to Full Physical (FP), with No Response (NR) for unattempted steps. See Task Analysis Setup for the full hierarchy and customization options.
Auto-Advance Behavior
Steps auto-advance after selection to keep you focused on the learner, not the device.
After you tap a prompt level:
- The step is marked complete
- The next step immediately displays
- Prompt buttons reset for the new step
This keeps data collection fast during therapy sessions.
Re-Scoring Steps
Made a mistake or need to change a score?
To re-score a completed step:
- Tap on the completed step (shown with checkmark)
- The prompt buttons reappear
- Tap the correct prompt level
- The step updates and you return to your current position
You can re-score any step at any time during the session.
Assessment Modes
- Multiple Opportunity (default) - Score all steps regardless of prior step performance
- Single Opportunity - Assessment stops after the first non-independent response
Assessment mode is configured in tracker settings. See Task Analysis Setup to change it.
Tips for Effective Scoring
Consistent Prompt Definitions
Ensure all team members agree on what each prompt level means for this specific task. “Partial physical” for Step 3 might look different than Step 7. Document variations in step notes.
Minimize Device Distraction
The auto-advance feature lets you focus on the learner. Glance at the device to see the current step, provide the minimum prompt, tap the button, and return attention to the learner.
Use Re-Scoring Sparingly
If you frequently need to re-score steps, consider whether your prompt hierarchy needs adjustment or if step definitions need clarification with your team.
