Report Statistics

Learn how TallyFlex calculates report statistics for frequency, duration, latency, percent correct, interval recording, and task analysis data.

Report statistics in TallyFlex are the summary metrics calculated for each tracker when you export data. Count and time-based measures summarize the data collected for that tracker, while percentage-based measures summarize the underlying trials, intervals, or steps.

What Each Statistic Means

Tracker Type”Average” ShowsWhat It Tells You
FrequencyOccurrences per data dayHow often the behavior happens
DurationMinutes per data dayTotal time spent on behavior
LatencySeconds per responseHow quickly the learner responds
Percent CorrectOverall accuracyTrue performance across all trials
Interval RecordingPercentage of intervalsTrue occurrence rate across all intervals
Task AnalysisPercent independentTrue independence across all steps

Why Weighted Averages Matter

For percentage-based data (Percent Correct, Intervals, Task Analysis), TallyFlex uses weighted averages instead of simple averages. This ensures each trial, interval, or step counts equally - regardless of which day it occurred.

Example: Why This Matters

Imagine a learner’s Percent Correct data:

DayResultTrials
Day 11/1 = 100%1 trial
Day 21/10 = 10%10 trials
Day 38/10 = 80%10 trials

Simple average of percentages: (100 + 10 + 80) / 3 = 63%

This is misleading - Day 1 had only one trial but gets equal weight to days with ten trials.

Weighted average (what TallyFlex uses): (1 + 1 + 8) / (1 + 10 + 10) = 10/21 = 48%

Each of the 21 trials contributes equally. This accurately represents true performance.

Quick Reference

Tracker TypeCalculation
FrequencyTotal occurrences / days with data
DurationAverage of daily totals (in minutes)
LatencyTotal latency / total responses
Percent CorrectTotal correct / total trials
Partial IntervalBehavior intervals / total intervals
Whole IntervalBehavior intervals / total intervals
Task AnalysisIndependent steps / total steps

For count and time-based measures, 0 is included when the tracker was observed and the result was zero. Blank values mean there was no data for that tracker in that period, so they are not included in the average.

Using Report Statistics in Review

These summaries can support qualified clinical review, documentation, and team discussion when interpreted with the full record and professional judgment:

  • Insurance documentation
  • Progress reports for parents
  • Clinical team meetings
  • Treatment planning decisions

Tips

  • Compare apples to apples - When reviewing progress, consider the number of trials or intervals, not just percentages
  • Check the totals - Reports include raw counts (correct/total, independent/total) alongside percentages
  • Export for deeper analysis - Excel exports include daily breakdowns for custom analysis
